The first thing that you must do is go and speak with your doctor. Whenever you speak with your doctor, ask them to evaluate you and your need for an obesity bed. If a medical condition has caused you to be overweight, and your doctor can provide documentation, you will be able to get the bed that you want in most cases.  A couple of examples of medical conditions affecting your weight would be diabetes and thyroid tumors.

Your doctor needs to update your medical records.  Your medical records should show how much the underlying condition you are experiencing is affecting your weight. The medical records should also say why it is necessary for  you to have a bariatric hospital bed at your current weight. Listing specifics of how the bed will be used and how it will benefit you is a great idea.

Any medical records that you receive from your doctor should have the date on them as well as the signature of the doctor. A formal cover letter should also be included. This cover letter should include any additional information about why you need the bed.  Make sure that you keep a copy of this for yourself as well as the one that you send to the insurance company.

Once you have gotten everything together, write a letter to the insurance company with all of the information. Make sure that you include proof that you have an active policy with the company and that you have paid all co-pays that you owe.
